Blush Bar | Geelong

AND THE WINNER IS....

BLUSH BAR!

Last week we attended the Deakin University Business Excellence Awards hosted by The Geelong Chamber of Commerce at The Pier on the Geelong waterfront.  The 600+ crowd highlighted the fact Geelong means business. It was a real honour to sit alongside other Geelong creatives and business owners who have a very similar vision and goal as us.

Such a fabulous time was had by all and we were absolutely astonished and so proud to take out the The Small Business Award and be a finalist in Geelong Business of the Year. This accomplishment means the world to us and it is with deep gratitude that I thank my wonderful staff and amazing clients who have made Blush Bar what it is today.

Blush Bar in its infancy commenced as an idea or a concept –  to have a fun, innovative salon where our clients could be pampered and taken care of by our amazing stylists. The concept was for a one stop shop with affordable luxurious, high end products that didn’t cost the earth or your wallet.  It really was the first of its kind in Geelong and the growth we have seen amongst our products, staff and clients has been overwhelming and awe inspiring.

Geelong has seen steady and consistent growth.  Our region once known as “Sleepy Hollow” is now home to some amazing produce and establishments.  It is a great time to be in business and to learn from all the existing and up and coming entrepreneurs and business owners who strive to put our town on the map and keep our residents excited about our region and its future.

It really is so inspiring to see our region grow and develop.  We are becoming increasingly spoilt for choice and the fact our residents can choose and source local products and businesses means we are contributing to the local economy in such a positive way.  The flow on effect of supporting local is one in which we all reap the benefits.

Thank you to The Geelong Chamber of Commerce, Deakin University and The Pier for highlighting and indeed celebrating our town and acknowledging the hard work and sheer determination it takes to run not just a business, but a successful one that we can all learn, grow from and be proud of.

LEARN HOW TO CONTOUR LIKE A PRO!

Welcome to the first of our ‘BIY’ Blush It Yourself series!

We are super excited to launch our new series of ‘how to’ videos for our Blush Babes! Here you will learn some quick and easy tricks of the trade to effortlessly transform yourself on a daily basis. What’s even better, we run through each of the products and brushes used to create these looks that can then be purchased in store or online at HERE for your convenience.

Once reserved for makeup artists and those who were well acquainted with professional tricks of the trade, contouring has been around for years. It was utilised as a means to highlight and disguise certain facial features. The power of a good contour is truly remarkable as it can change and alter the physicality of an individual.

With the advent of social media, video bloggers and reality film stars – contouring has become as common as eyeliner and lipgloss. It seems every girl and guy have become experts in highlighting and disguising certain features. We even have specific tools to help us achieve an effortless finish.

When done correctly, contouring can have a transformative effect. The trick is to create a seamless look, one which does not seem obvious to the eye. What we want is to deflect and pronounce certain features.

Here we have our resident Blush Bar MUA, Lisa Mitrov showing us how it’s done. You will note there are no sharp, heavy lines and she has done a fabulous job of accentuating her lovely cheekbones.

But without further ado, please sit back and enjoy the show!

Hello darlings…

Happy month of June to all. It would seem (much to our dismay) winter has well and truly arrived…and with a vengeance I might add.

Its this time of the year the BlushBar girls tend to envision themselves in Capri or conjure up fantasies of sipping a cocktail at sunset on the French Riviera. Its when we give the old google search engine a run for its money whilst we research holiday destinations in more tropical climates.

Despite the grey skies and sometimes freezing temperatures, its not all doom and gloom, there are many things we do enjoy about winter. We love winter fashion – the coats, jackets, boots, scarves, gloves, warm wool knit jumpers and a beautiful cuppa on a misty, grey morning. We love the sound of rain pelting down on a tin roof and we love the overall look and aesthetic winter can bring about. Some of us truly do believe winter is a lot more fashionable and stylish a season than the warmer months and one thing we can all agree on is we all love the make up looks that come with this time of year.

Some people tend to go darker with their locks perhaps because they cant bear the thought of leaving the house when its too cold outside. I think its fair to say, most people tend to go a little darker with their hair in winter – having said that, we spent 3 fabulous days at the Melbourne Hair Expo recently and it would seem pastel colours and bright locks are still the rage and probably will be for some time. The immense quality, talent and innovation seen by Australian hair stylists and hairdressers was simply breathtaking and we took away so much inspiration from it. It really is a must see and if you haven’t attended an expo and you are in the industry, we highly recommend you do.

Onto makeup looks for winter: It seems our make up also takes a more sophisticated turn and deeper palette in the winter months. We love the drama a darker lippy or a smouldering eye can create – think berry, browns, plums and deep reds. Eyes can be kept simple with a slick of mascara to open up the eye or we can opt for a more dramatic look and introduce berry, deep browns and plums – even a deep coloured shimmer can really make the eyes pop.

2018 has seen a huge trend with metallics – by metallic we mean metallic rust, rose, bronze, browns and yellow/orange tones.
We are loving this trend and although some people may be intimated to try it, its always a good idea to attempt a little at a time. Go for a bold lippy first or keep lips neutral and play up the eyes and introduce a smouldering, metallic, glam eye or even keep the eye very simple and have a metallic sweep of eyeliner across the top lid.

The possibilities really are endless. We would love to see all of our new and existing clients at Blush Bar where one of our talented and knowledgeable make-up artists would be happy to consult and sit with you to colour match, provide professional advice whilst having some fun and experimenting with all our fabulous products.
