LEARN HOW TO CONTOUR LIKE A PRO!

Welcome to the first of our ‘BIY’ Blush It Yourself series!

We are super excited to launch our new series of ‘how to’ videos for our Blush Babes! Here you will learn some quick and easy tricks of the trade to effortlessly transform yourself on a daily basis. What’s even better, we run through each of the products and brushes used to create these looks that can then be purchased in store or online at HERE for your convenience.

Once reserved for makeup artists and those who were well acquainted with professional tricks of the trade, contouring has been around for years. It was utilised as a means to highlight and disguise certain facial features. The power of a good contour is truly remarkable as it can change and alter the physicality of an individual.

With the advent of social media, video bloggers and reality film stars – contouring has become as common as eyeliner and lipgloss. It seems every girl and guy have become experts in highlighting and disguising certain features. We even have specific tools to help us achieve an effortless finish.

When done correctly, contouring can have a transformative effect. The trick is to create a seamless look, one which does not seem obvious to the eye. What we want is to deflect and pronounce certain features.

Here we have our resident Blush Bar MUA, Lisa Mitrov showing us how it’s done. You will note there are no sharp, heavy lines and she has done a fabulous job of accentuating her lovely cheekbones.

But without further ado, please sit back and enjoy the show!

Hello darlings…

Happy month of June to all. It would seem (much to our dismay) winter has well and truly arrived…and with a vengeance I might add.

Its this time of the year the BlushBar girls tend to envision themselves in Capri or conjure up fantasies of sipping a cocktail at sunset on the French Riviera. Its when we give the old google search engine a run for its money whilst we research holiday destinations in more tropical climates.

Despite the grey skies and sometimes freezing temperatures, its not all doom and gloom, there are many things we do enjoy about winter. We love winter fashion – the coats, jackets, boots, scarves, gloves, warm wool knit jumpers and a beautiful cuppa on a misty, grey morning. We love the sound of rain pelting down on a tin roof and we love the overall look and aesthetic winter can bring about. Some of us truly do believe winter is a lot more fashionable and stylish a season than the warmer months and one thing we can all agree on is we all love the make up looks that come with this time of year.

Some people tend to go darker with their locks perhaps because they cant bear the thought of leaving the house when its too cold outside. I think its fair to say, most people tend to go a little darker with their hair in winter – having said that, we spent 3 fabulous days at the Melbourne Hair Expo recently and it would seem pastel colours and bright locks are still the rage and probably will be for some time. The immense quality, talent and innovation seen by Australian hair stylists and hairdressers was simply breathtaking and we took away so much inspiration from it. It really is a must see and if you haven’t attended an expo and you are in the industry, we highly recommend you do.

Onto makeup looks for winter: It seems our make up also takes a more sophisticated turn and deeper palette in the winter months. We love the drama a darker lippy or a smouldering eye can create – think berry, browns, plums and deep reds. Eyes can be kept simple with a slick of mascara to open up the eye or we can opt for a more dramatic look and introduce berry, deep browns and plums – even a deep coloured shimmer can really make the eyes pop.

2018 has seen a huge trend with metallics – by metallic we mean metallic rust, rose, bronze, browns and yellow/orange tones.
We are loving this trend and although some people may be intimated to try it, its always a good idea to attempt a little at a time. Go for a bold lippy first or keep lips neutral and play up the eyes and introduce a smouldering, metallic, glam eye or even keep the eye very simple and have a metallic sweep of eyeliner across the top lid.

The possibilities really are endless. We would love to see all of our new and existing clients at Blush Bar where one of our talented and knowledgeable make-up artists would be happy to consult and sit with you to colour match, provide professional advice whilst having some fun and experimenting with all our fabulous products.

LASHINGS OF LASHES

Comments Off on LASHINGS OF LASHES

Hey beauties
This month we thought we’d shine a light on one of our long-term suppliers and write about the wonderful world of lashes and how they’ve re-emerged into the beauty and makeup scene in a major way.

Huge in the 60s, lashes have always been en vogue, however they’ve become huge in the last decade and lash extensions have become the order of the day.
At Blush Bar we have the fabulous girls at Lux Lash Studio who provide an unparalleled, quality service and for those of you who don’t particularly want the maintenance or cannot enjoy lash extensions due to health concerns, we have Lash Republic by Milan & Co. which we use in several of our services (Lash me up, The Whole She-Bang).
Lash Republic is owned and operated by a makeup artist who knows and understands what our client’s needs and wants us.

The beauty about these lashes is that they come in full, half or quarter bar size, full volume, natural and there’s even an avant garde selection for those who dare to be different.

The lashes are 100% human hair which makes a huge difference to the quality and feel of the lash. We also have the Lash Republic style selectors ™ which allows you to visually see what the lash looks like up against your own eye prior to application.
They’re reusable with the correct care and the glue is latex free. With the influx of faux lashes currently flooding the market, we like to think of this product as a quality, affordable and luxurious product favoured and revered by makeup artists around the world.

Lash Republic is currently undergoing some brand changes which we are super excited to be a part in. Keep an eye out for that via their website or Instagram page.
Lash Republic is sold and used at Blush Bar and are also available for sale via their own website with afterpay available at www.lashrepublic.com.au.
Lashes can take your look (with or without makeup) to the next level so please come instore and chat with one of our friendly artists who are more than happy to assist selecting the style that will best suit your eye shape.

-Makeup Extraordinaire & Blush Bar Senior Artist-

Hi I’m Shannon!

I have been makeuping for over 5 years now and have a diploma in Makeup.

I also have my cert 4 in training and assessment as I also teach part of The Makeup Professionals 6 week course here at Blush Bar.
The first moment I realised I wanted to get into makeup was when I had it done for my Deb and couldn’t believe how amazing it was.
I love teaching Makeup and doing bridal freelance as well as blushing up clients at Blush Bar.
My favorite part about working at Blush Bar would be the girls I get to work with, it makes going to ‘work’ all the more fun, especially when its one of our birthdays we always put on a ‘lil celebration – we never forget the cake!!!
I have always had a passion for makeup, I love teaching women how to enhance their own beautiful features and to feel more confident – and love the looks on their faces after makeup has transformed them for the evening!

Come in and see me for a comprehensive tuition, a natural makeover or a glammed up party event – I rock a smokey eye design on anyone!

-Your makeup brushes will LOVE you forever!-

Ever wondered why your makeup wasn’t going on smoothly or the colours seemed a bit ‘off’ compared to what they did a little while ago? Are your brushes getting pricklier on application compared to their once smooth application?

OR

Heaven forbid you now have a huge pimple where none had dared to tread or spread for years?

A likely reason behind these beauty woes is the question we all hate (and are embarrassed) to answer –

When was the last time you washed your makeup brushes???

Weeks? Months? Never? Argh!!!!!

We all underestimate the amount of bacteria that can accumulate on our brushes. After so many uses they become caked with product, residue, oil and dead skin cells! (yuck)! that we then put back onto our faces (yuck!!!)

We suggest on average that brushes should be washed at least every fortnight (after every day of use for the makeup artists out there)

So what’s the quickest, best, most amazing way to wash your brushes i hear you say?

You can use unscented bar soap, shampoo and conditioner or dish detergent and lukewarm water (makeup artists can also add an anti-bacterial cleaning solution)

Avoid wetting the brush handle and bristle barrel as this can cause the bristles to loosen and fall out

The Sigma brush cleaning gloves and mats are a quicker way to get right down into the core of the bristles for those of us that are time poor but still want to love our brushes

Be gentle as you don’t want to change the shape of your brushes –

Rinse thoroughly to ensure all product residue has been removed and either lie flat on a towel overnight to dry or invest in the Sigma dry n shape which guarantees to dry even the most dense brushes in 4-6 hours tops

The Buzz on BB Cream

Comments Off on The Buzz on BB Cream

IMG_0009

-the low down on BB-

BB cream is short for beauty balm. PART skincare and PART makeup.

It is a comparatively new product to the beauty industry, and completely taking it by storm.

This versatile skin care/makeup hybrid promises to do the job of five or six other jars and tubes: moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation.

BB cream tends to generally be a little thicker than a tinted moisturiser due to its fuller list of ingredients.

That said, it also gives generally a slightly stronger coverage than a tinted moisturiser but a lesser coverage than your foundation

Blush Bar’s range of BB cream is

  • hydrating, protecting with sheer, radiant coverage
  • provides superior skin protection that may prevent premature skin aging and darkening
  • produces a very natural,  makeup look
  • comes in 4 colour correcting shades: fair, light, light/medium, medium
  • contains SPF
  • contains antioxidants
  • paraben free
  • non-comedogenic
  • not tested on animals

So why not try it out for yourself.

It’s a great little everyday base when you want to look ‘fresh’ but not too made up. AND if it saves time in the mornings, how is that not a miracle in itself!
